Job Description Teaching faculty are responsible for providing learning activities and support to achieve course objectives and to contribute positively to the educational environment of Lone Star College and the broader community. Purpose and Scope The faculty member plans, develops, and teaches courses aligned with the curriculum while fostering student learning, providing professional development, and serving the institution. Essential Job Functions Teach psychology courses at varying times and locations as required by the institution. Continuously improve instruction by employing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods. Develop and implement syllabi for each course or laboratory in accordance with college and department guidelines. Design and utilize diversified teaching materials and methods that accommodate students with varying educational backgrounds and learning styles. Assess student progress toward course objectives and provide timely feedback. Submit all required college reports and forms promptly. Evaluate, recommend, and select student learning materials. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community. Ensure accessibility to students through office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods. Engage in professional development and institutional service as advised by the Dean. Perform other related duties as reasonably assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Mastery of course content. Demonstrated leadership skills focused on collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Appreciation for alternative viewpoints and ability to work effectively with diverse individuals. Commitment to academic excellence and dynamic lifelong learning. Skill in designing and implementing instructional approaches such as service learning, civic engagement, learning communities, and technology integration. Effective strategies for engaging students in learning. Physical Abilities Work is primarily sedentary; occasional walking, standing, bending, or light carrying may be required. No special physical demands are needed. Work Schedule and Conditions Use of PC workstation, Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and office equipment. Interaction with internal and external contacts as necessary. Classroom or lab environment with climate control; negligible exposure to safety hazards. Hours vary by class schedules; availability for student support outside instructional times is required. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in psychology or a master’s with at least 18 graduate hours in psychology; alternatively, a master’s in educational psychology or counseling psychology with at least 18 graduate hours in psychology or an analysis of coursework equivalent to a master’s in psychology.
