JOB SUMMARY


The High School Psychology and Sociology Teacher will provide engaging, standards-aligned instruction in social science content. The successful candidate will use approved district curriculum, facilitate rigorous lessons, maintain a positive and structured classroom environment, and support student growth through effective planning, classroom management, and instruction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Deliver instruction in Psychology and Sociology using approved district curriculum and instructional resources to eleven and twelfth grade students.
  • Plan and facilitate daily lessons that are engaging, rigorous, and aligned to course standards and district expectations.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans in a timely manner, in accordance with building and district procedures.
  • Provide bell-to-bell instruction that maximizes instructional time and keeps students actively engaged throughout the class period.
  • Maintain effective classroom management practices that promote a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and support student achievement.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of attendance, grades, assessments, and student performance.
  • Communicate professionally with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Collaborate with department members and school staff to strengthen instructional practices and student outcomes.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other assigned duties as needed.
  • Uphold all district, building, and professional expectations for conduct and performance

  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and state.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Social Science, or a related field.
  • Valid Missouri teaching certification or eligibility for appropriate certification.
  • Knowledge of high school Psychology and Sociology content.
  • Demonstrated ability to use approved curriculum and plan effective instruction.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred
  • Experience teaching high school Psychology and Sociology.
  • Experience in submitting weekly lesson plans and working within a district curriculum framework.
  • Demonstrated success in maintaining engaging, structured, and student-centered classrooms.
  • Experience collaborating with colleagues to improve instructional outcomes.
